TWO WAYS WITH EMBOSSING POWDER - TGIFC227

How is this for a challenge?  Using Embossing Powders in different ways on your projects.  The team at TGIFC can't wait to see what you do with this.  Just click on the #tgifc227 picture below to go to the challenge site and join in.

I decided to play with a technique using tissue paper and Pigment Sprinkles.  I made two different samples, one barely using the Sprinkles and the other really saturating the colour.  I put it to a vote on my Instagram page to see what would be the most popular - solid colour or sprinkled colour.  Sprinkled won.

I then screwed up the tissue paper, before slightly flattening it again and adhering it to my card base with Multipurpose Liquid Adhesive.  I lightly rubbed my Versamark ink pad over the crinkles and then heat set Gold Embossing powder after sprinkling that on the tissue.  It is really hard to photograph the gorgeous gold veins that appear on the tissue paper!  It was a rather intense and heavily textured look, so I chose to just show a hint of it behind my stamped card front.  I used the more traditional heat embossing to do my sentiment, again in gold and finished with a gold foil strip on the diagonal.

I really enjoyed this challenge as it had me thinking outside the box when it came to using embossing powders in an interesting way.  Maybe one for my Techniques class?  Yes, I think so!

FOR THE MEN - FANCY FRIDAY BLOG HOP

Welcome to the Fancy Friday blog hop for August.  We are a group of past and present Stampin' Up! Artisans who love to craft together and bring you inspiration on the last Friday of every month.  This month, our projects are all about the men!

My project was actually inspired by a holiday in the Gold Coast that my sweetie and I are taking right at the this very moment.  I have used Stampin' Blends to colour my scene in very masculine blues and then layered this over a base of Early Espresso to make those Palm Trees really pop!

I broke out a couple of brand new products, Shimmery Crystal Effects and Snowfall Accents Puff Paint, available for purchase from September 4th, to add texture and shine to the water.  The Shimmery Crystal Effects adds a beautiful twinkly glint off the distant waves and the puff paint, used very sparingly, mimics sea foam as the waves wash up on the beach.  You really need to add both of these products to your crafty tool box.

Inspired by our holiday, but perhaps given to him for his birthday.  I hope it brings back some great memories for him of our holiday right now!

Next up on the hop is my very good friend and all round fantastic person, Susan Wong.  Go give her some love!

TGIFC ALL ON BLACK - #tgifc225

Join us this week for #tgifc225 - All On Black.  As usual, I have done my own thing by not having a black card base, but black still features heavily in the background of my card!  If you love black, then this challenge is for YOU and I hope you will join in and submit your own design at the challenge site.  Just click on the banner below to visit!

One thing I never have a problem with is working with Black.  Technically not a colour, it is still my favourite!  I very rarely make a project without it in some form.  Just about every piece of clothing I own is black or at least, has it in it.

This card is bold and dramatic.  The gorgeous Magnolia is stunning in it's size but it is the black background that adds drama to the card.  I used my Stampin' Blends to colour this piece and opted not to put a sentiment on the front.  Can you see the very subtle embossing over the card front?  The Subtle Embossing Folder has to be my all time favourite!  Just look at the gorgeous texture!

I wanted the ribbon detail to be dramatic too, so I punched holes in my card to weave it in and out before tying it off in a lovely big bow.  Yes, after all that hard work colouring I punched holes in it.  So glad I didn't mess it up! A few well placed sequins completed this dramatic look.

You have until next Friday to submit your own creations.  You may very well be our favourite pick for the week!  Good luck!
