HELLO MOON BABY!

Happy Boxing Day to you all! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas Day spent with family and friends, and that Santa was kind and didn't forget his stop with you, lol.

Before the rev up to Christmas Day got too crazy, I found some time to play with Stampin' Up!'s new Watercolor Pencils and I have actually made two cards using them with this super cute stamp set "Moon Baby", of which I am sharing one with you today. Both of these new items will be available when the Occasions Catalogues goes live on the 4th of Jan.

Back to my card, I wanted to see how the watercolor pencils would act simply as a coloured pencil and I am happy to report - beautifully! The colours are gorgeously vibrant and the lead has a softness to it that allows blending, even without the addition of water. All that while colouring on Crumb Cake card, not white!

The clouds have been stamped in White Craft ink all over the background and I finished the card with a little enamel dot detail.

I can't wait to use these pencils in a class to show all my lovely ladies how great they are. It is fabulous to see Stampin' Up! adding to their colouring mediums. I am in love!

PLAID PINES - GDP067

It's quite appropriate that the theme this week at Global Design Project is "Trees" given that it is Christmas and nearly everyone I know has one in their house!

I came up with my very last Christmas card design for the year with this theme and gave the Greetings from Santa stamp set it's last hoorah before it retires. I even made my first Aurora card with this set which you can see HERE if you missed it!

I have stamped the trees in Mint Macaron and Garden Green to add depth to my forest, and also repeated this on the inside of the card. I have to share a secret - I like to hoard my embellishments, ribbon and Designer Paper and very rarely use them on my projects. They are just too pretty to cut!

I am now making a concerted effort to use them more often. Just look at the difference a little DSP and ribbon can make to a card! I love the addition of the three colours of twine to finish this project.

WE SCREAM FOR ICE CREAM! GDP066

Has the Christmas shopping madness started for you yet? Oh my goodness! I am now avoiding the shops as much as I possibly can. But all that shopping put me in the right frame of mind to get in my craft room and create with good card sketch! Join us for this weeks Global Design Project challenge.

This is an interesting sketch, no? I was a little unsure of the direction I would take with this one. I decided to have a look in my pre-order goodie box for some inspiration. I settled on the itty bitty Ice cream cone stamp from the Tasty Trucks SAB set. I figured they would be super cute and colourful on a card just by themselves. Come January 4th, you can earn this set free with a $110 NZD purchase. You might want to start saving, this is the best Sale-A-Bration catalogue yet!

Lots of repeat stamping of the little cone, but photopolymer stamps make this so easy! You can see where to stamp without the use of a stamp placement tool. I have also used Early Espresso Ink because I didn't want the harsh lines of a black. If you leave the Early Espresso a few minutes before adding other colours, and you don't over work it, it doesn't run.

I then used my Many Marvelous Markers to colour in all the ice cream cones. I used Delightful Dijon for the cones and then chose a light and medium colour for each ice cream. The combinations I use were: Pink Pirouette/Blushing Bride, Soft Sky/Marina Mist, Mint Macaron/Wild Wasabi and Peekaboo Peach/Calypso Coral.

I tried to use some twine and create a tag as was indicated in the sketch but it just was not looking good! I love that sketches are open to interpretation so after a little bit of mucking around I chose to cut my image panel and use that as my feature. I then added my sentiment flag with Dimensionals over the split in the card and some enamel dots in my ice cream colours to finish.

INSIDE THE LINES BIRTHDAY

One of my passions is colouring in. I have about four Adult Colouring books at home and another at my Mum's for when I go visit her! One of the new Sale-a-bration (SAB) products that will be available to earn FREE (with a $110 NZD Order) from January 4th, is a pack of Designer Paper called "Inside the Lines". You get 12 sheets, 3 each of four designs, and a little goes a long way! You can use a variety of different colouring products on this lovely paper, but I wanted to see how it would stand up to water colour.

As you can see by my finished card, it stood up very well to water. I used an Aqua Painter to colour, picking up ink from my ink pad lids and using a colour wash to fill in the main images. Once dry, I went back in with more colour to add dimension and shading. The DSP did warp, but not as much as I thought it would. Once it was completely dry, I applied fast fuse generously to the back and adhered it to a Thick Whisper White card. This helped helped to flatten the paper and keep it that way. I then trimmed the image panel to the size I wanted for my card front.

I have seen vellum banners used on cards and never tried one myself. I love how this turned out. I did use Staz On to stamp and it probably would look better in Black embossing, but hey, live and learn, right? I adore that you can see through it so nothing of the artwork is hidden, just muted.
