CASE THE DESIGNER AT GDP064 - CONNIE COLLINS

It's time to CASE the Designer at Global Design Project.  This week, we are CASEing one of my personal favourite designers, Connie Collins.  I first came across Connie's work a few years back when she was first on the Stampin' Up! Artisan Design team.  She is also on the current team and her designs always take my breath away.

It's not without a little awe (and nerves) that I get to CASE (Copy and Selectively Edit) another of her beautiful designs.  When I "case", I take elements of the original design that have caught my attention.  It can be anything.  I have a good look at the original project, write down things about it that I love, then close the photo down, not to be looked at again.  Otherwise I am too tempted to copy exactly.  Why change perfection, lol.

This is actually my second attempt, btw.  I was going to use Jar of Love and flowers, but I just wasn't feeling the love and had no clear direction in mind.  After taking another hunt through my stash, I decided on Paisleys and Posies stamp, my most used stamp set from the Holiday catalogue.  The good news is that it is carrying over after that catalogue finishes - woop!

I used blues and yellows, like Connie, for my card and all the the little circle elements from the stamp set.  I think they look a little like fireworks going off!  I kept the embellishments to a minimum, using only Black and Gold Bakers Twine and the Metallics Enamel Dots to add just a touch of bling.

I hope Connie likes the card I have come up with using her original design for inspiration.  She has inspired me in many ways over the time I have known her and it is because of her that I had the courage to apply for the Artisan Design Team myself.  I was extremely honored when I was offered this position for 2017,  I look forward to bringing you yet more posts on this blog!

LIFE'S AN ADVENTURE GDP063

Join us at Global Design Project this week for a fun theme challenge - Adventure!  So what do you think of when you think adventure?  It's a pretty broad subject and certainly open to interpretation.

A good friend of mine is a motorbike enthusiast and likes to hoon off for a "blat" every now and again.  I have had to sit though many, many bike stories, believe me.  Well, that to me is some adventure right there!  Just getting on the bike would be an adventure!  I am so short I would need a ladder, lol.

I couldn't think of a better birthday card for him than this adventure theme and it gave me a great excuse to use the fabulous "million" dollar stamp set "One Wild Ride".

I have used Shimmery White card as a base and added a very fluid, water colour background in Tempting Turquoise and Emerald Envy ink, before stamping the sentiment badge in Tuxedo Black Memento ink.  I stamped a second badge and fussy cut the  banner before adhering to my card with Dimensionals.

This card wouldn't have been complete without that bike image and it just works so well with the birthday wish on the inside of the card.  I love that I am able to make such a personal card for friends and family with stamping.

Back to my initial question.  What is YOUR idea of adventure?  Create a project and upload it to the Global Design Project gallery this week and it share it with us!

YOU INSPIRE ME! GDP062

Welcome to another awesome sketch challenge at Global Design Project.  My good friend Teneale Williams creates the best sketches for us to play along with!

I have combined two products this week that I absolutely love but that really haven't seen much love from me lately!  One is the awesome stamp set Totally Trees and the other is the beautiful Paper Stack, A Little Foxy.

I loved the clean simple design of this sketch and follwed it exactly.  I have even used a DSP background from the A Little Foxy paper stack.  Yes, I actually did!  I also choose my colours from this DSP,  I love how everything coordinates!

I made this card with a special person in mind, who has achieved amazing things over the past year (and longer, if the truth were known) and I wanted to tell her the best way I know how - with a card!

Of course, it is all about the works - outside, inside and envelope!  Happy mail just looks so much better with a pretty envelope, don't you think?

I hope you will join us at Global Design Project this week for this great sketch challenge.  Head on over and have a look at what the rest of the DT have come up with and leave some comment love if you visit.  We love to hear from you too!
