CASE THE DESIGNER - #GDP008

While I am primarily a card maker, I like to push myself in other directions, even if they are slightly uncomfortable for me.  Since joining the Global Design Project, I have tried to be a little more creative in the projects I design, with things like Project Life and three dimensional projects.

This weeks theme is to CASE the Designer - Kylie Bertucci.  I normally take things so literally and my first thought was to CASE the card layout.  Instead I pushed myself to make something 3D using the colours in her card.

I haven't long had the Pillow Box die or the Corrugated cardstock and wanted to give them both a workout.  I love the look of the corrugation on the box, it adds a very interesting texture.  I also extended the box a little when I added the Cherry Cobbler top.
See the beautiful ribbon, all glittery?  That is the White Glitter ribbon from the Holiday catalogue.  My good friend Claire Daly shared how she coloured that back of the ribbon with a Stampin' Write marker, so I did too!.  It is worth a little effort to have a matching ribbon!

I can't wait to see how you take inspiration from Kylie's project when you play at Global Design Project with us!

GOING FOR A SKATE

Going for a Skate - that's a term I normally use when I have taken a tumble!  I haven't, thank goodness, as it takes me longer to get up these days, lol.  I did need a birthday card for a young at heart 27 year old male however, and I think the skate boarder stamp (unfortunately retired) fit the brief perfectly.

I kept the colours fairly neutral, except for the pop of Pear Pizzazz, and added a fun background by sponging over a small polka dot stencil I have in my stash and then stamping the sunburst on top in Pear Pizzaz for impact.  The images are stamped in Early Espresso ink and the card finished with three Espresso brads in the top right hand corner.  The image panel was popped up on Dimensionals before being added to my card base.

ADVENTURE AT BUTTERFLY CREEK - #GDP007

This week at Global Design Project we have a theme for you - Farm.  There you go. Farm. So what do you do if you don't have a single animal stamp in your stash?  Well, you get creative, like I had to, lol

I decided to make a Project Life page recording my daughters first (and probably only) horse ride a few years ago.  While we have some pretty nifty PL cards that I could have just thrown in the pockets, I really wanted to design one myself that had a country/farm feel to it.  I stamped the Hardwood background stamp on Crumb Cake card and then cut each plank before sponging ink around the edges to make it look more realistic.  The "nails" were simply a Stampin' Write maker.

I used the accessory kit from the This is Your Life PL range too.  I created my own flair button using an @ sticker from the kit and the heading is from the Sticker Alphabet that comes with the kit too.  I love these kits because they make coordinating everything so easy!  I used a preprinted PL card from the same card collection behind my journaling card.  I like that it draws attention to the photograph.  I love how my page turned out.  It certainly has a Farm feel about it, don't you think?

Head over to the Global Design Project site to have a look at the wonderful projects the rest of the Design Team have made and gain a little inspiration for your own project.  I hope you will join us this week for this fun theme!

A LITTLE CUTIE FOR JUST ADD INK

Oh, My, Goshness!!  I have created two cards this week for no other reason than I just can!  I used the Just Add Ink sketch challenge to create this card.  I haven't played along with the girls at JAI for such a long time, so I am quite excited that I can this week!

I have been dying to water colour these gorgeous Christmas images and I actually had this one done quite some time ago, but couldn't decide how to use him on a card!  Just Add Ink to the rescue!

The sketch caught my eye, but it also allowed me to use the Designer Paper I chose my colours from on the flag behind the image.

I also couldn't decide how to add a sentiment, so opted to stamp all over my background with the words Noel and Peace, thus eliminating that problem!  I love my little snow angel with his little red pompom and hope you do too!

GREETINGS IN PLAID - #GDP006

Are you starting to see a pattern yet with the Global Design Project challenges?  No?  Then let me explain.  We have a challenge every week, yes, but they rotate just to keep things interesting!  Week 1 is a colour challenge, week 2 a sketch challenge, week 3 is a theme challenge and week 4 is a "CASE" challenge of one of the Design Team members.  I think this keeps everything fresh and exciting.  It also means you can play along with all, or just your favourite challenges!

This week is a sketch challenge and it's a doozy!!  I finally settled on a design once I decided to use this designer paper from the Merry Moments Paper Stack.  The plaid helped me to choose the angle of my diagonal and from there, I was off and running!

I kept it relatively simple as the plaid is rather busy.  I just pulled the green and red from it to use on my sentiment panel and embellishment.  You can see I also used it to carry the theme through to the inside of my card as well.
So, are you up for a challenging sketch this week?  I hope so.  Check out what the rest of the Design Team have created first then join in!

Did you know the Global Design Project also have a Pinterest Board with all the DT's designs and a lot of design entries too?  Make sure you follow it for plenty of inspiration at your fingertips!

FRESHLY MADE NOEL - FMS207

It is not often I get to play along with another challenge site, but this particular challenge kept jumping out at me all week.  I gave in and created my card today for Freshly Made Sketches #207.

I love the serene scene I managed to create with this alternative Christmas card.  I sponged the following colours onto Shimmery White card stock for the sky; Watermelon Wonder, So Saffron, Tempting Turquoise and Pacific Point.  The black scene is a stamp from the set To You & Yours Too, just the perfect image!
I love the sketch that Kim Singdahlsen created for this challenge.  As I already said, it kept jumping out at me all week!  What's a girl to do but create?!

I kept the sentiment simple, with just a single heat embossed word.  I wanted the scene to speak for itself.  I hope you like this card as much as I do!  I would love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to leave me a comment.  I read and appreciate each and every one.

BLUE + YELLOW = GREEN #GDP005

Welcome back to another Global Design Project colour challenge.  This week, we bring you Daffodil Delight, Soft Sky and Pear Pizzazz.  Quite a combination don't you think?  To help things a little, you can use neutrals as well, such as Black, White and Kraft.

I went a little left of center and only used Daffodil Delight and Soft Sky.  I sponged Soft Sky on to my card base using one of the Happy Patterns Masks.  Once I had done that, I moved it so the diamond shapes didn't line up and sponged again in Daffodil Delight.  Where the two colours overlap is my Pear Pizzazz!  It certainly plays tricks with your eyes too, blahahahaha!!

I masked off a strip on the inside of my card and repeated the sponging process, then stamped my sentiment through the middle.  I also made a matching gift box using the Curvy Keepsake Box Thinlits, to create a complete gift set!

I can't wait to see what you come up with for this colour challenge at Global Design Project.  The Design Team have been hard at work to inspire you too, so go and leave them some comment love while you visit!

DOVE OF PEACE

Just a quick little post today.  When I first saw this dove in the Holiday catalogue, I couldn't help but think of the adult colouring books that are all the rage right now.  I have two myself, so it was only natural I get this stamp too!  I enjoy the colouring in process and find it very relaxing!

This is how I created this one layered card:

1.  Stamped the Dove image on the front of a thick Whisper White card base in Black Staz On ink.
2.  Stamped a second dove image on post-it paper and cut out a mask.
3.  Laid the mask over my stamped image on the card front to protect it while I gently sponged Crushed Curry ink in a circular motion over the mask.
4.  Removed the mask and coloured my Dove using Stampin' Write markers in Tip Top Taupe, Mint Macaron, and Tangerine Tango.
5.  Stamped "Peace" in the bottom right corner of the card in Basic Black Archival Ink.  I love the intense black colour of this ink!!
6. Finished by adhering three coordinating Candy Dots.

This stamp also has a long sentiment beneath it (as one whole stamp).  To give me options, I chose to cut it off and mount the sentiment on a separate block.  This saves me having to mask the sentiment each time I don't want to use it.
